Nacuxa, Nampula – The Market Access for Mozambican Aquaculture Products (MAMAP) project conducted a Training of Trainers in Aquaculture from November 17 to 21, 2025, at the Mártir Cipriano Polytechnic Institute (IPMC) in Nacuxa, Nampula province.

The initiative, organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under the Global Market Access Programme (GMAP), with funding from Norway, trained 14 trainers who will disseminate technical knowledge in aquaculture to communities and cooperatives supported by the project.

The training, led by specialist Dr. Manecas Baloi, PhD, covered fundamental aspects of sustainable aquaculture, including biosecurity, pond management, fish nutrition, water quality, and good production practices. The objective is to ensure that local trainers possess solid technical skills to support the development of the aquaculture sector in the northern region of the country.

Among the certified participants are IPMC technicians and other sector agents, including Andihape Domingos Mussa, Mateus Francisco Noe, Clara Armando Miteca, Esmenia Paulo Baptista, Celso Francisco, Kenneth Frederico, Chissano Amisse João, Gilda Mario Adamo, Sumail Nfalume, Varanja Gaspar, Hermenigildo Limas, Filomino Paulino De Alide Gonçalves, and Anselmo Costa Pedro.

The choice of IPMC as the training venue reflects MAMAP’s strategy of establishing partnerships with technical and vocational education institutions, strengthening the link between academic training and the practical needs of the productive sector.

This training represents an important step in building sustainable local capacities for the development of aquaculture in Mozambique,” stated José Ariscado, MAMAP Project National Coordinator.

MAMAP continues to work in support of cooperatives and small-scale aquaculture producers in the provinces of Nampula, Niassa, and Cabo Delgado, promoting market access, improving product quality, and increasing sector productivity.
