The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has guaranteed the participation of five Mozambican representatives at the Annual International Conference & Exposition of the African Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society (AFRAQ2024), which takes place from November 19 to 22 in Hammamet, Tunisia. The event will bring together experts and leaders from the African aquaculture sector to discuss challenges, advances and opportunities in the field.
The delegation includes members of the Ministry of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries (MIMAIP), the National Fish Inspection Institute (INIP), the Institute for the Development of Fisheries and Aquaculture (IDEPA), the Center for the Promotion of Aquaculture (CEPAC) and the National Aquaculture Association (AMAQUA). UNIDO is coordinating the initiative through the Market Access of Mozambican Aquaculture Products (MAMAP) project, which promotes the development of aquaculture in Mozambique.
The MAMAP project, funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), aims to strengthen the Mozambican aquaculture value chain. During the conference, representatives will exchange experiences, explore solutions to the sector’s main challenges and identify opportunities for international partnerships.
This action reflects UNIDO’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable industrialization, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG-9, which promotes resilient infrastructure, inclusive industrialization and innovation.
