On July 8, 2024, UNIDO launched a comprehensive assessment of fish farming associations in Mozambique’s Southern Region as part of its MAMAP project. Collaborating with Instituto de Desenvolvimento da Pesca e Aquacultura (IDEPA) and Associação Moçambicana de Promoção do Cooperativismo Moderno (AMPC), the project aims to enhance the 🐠🐡🐟🪼aquaculture sector by promoting cooperative models.

During their visit to the Boane Mahanhane fish farming association, the project team engaged in constructive discussions with members who shared their challenges and aspirations to transform into a cooperative. Mr. Gomes Massuquez of the Boane Mahanhane Fish Farming Association emphasized the potential benefits: “Cooperatives will enable fishers to negotiate better prices for their catch by pooling resources and collectively selling their fish. This will help us receive fairer 💰💰💰prices and compete more effectively in the 💹💹💹market.”
