A Mozambican delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAAP) and members of the GMAP Project are actively participating in the 4th International Conference and Exhibition of the African Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society (AFRAQ2025), which is taking place this week, from June 24 to 27, in Entebbe, Uganda.
The country’s presence at the continent’s largest aquaculture forum was made possible by the crucial support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) through its project “Access to the Market for Mozambican Aquaculture Products” (MAMAP).
Under the slogan “Aquaculture on the Rise,” the event brings together more than a thousand experts, investors, academics, and government representatives from around the world. The Mozambican delegation is taking advantage of this strategic platform to showcase the potential and advances of the national aquaculture sector, in line with the country’s recently launched Blue Economy Strategy.
The main objectives of the Mozambican representatives are to share experiences, identify innovative solutions to the challenges facing the sector and, crucially, attract new investments and partnerships. Active participation in the discussion panels and exhibition fair serves to position Mozambique as a promising destination for investment in the blue industry.
The MAMAP project, implemented by UNIDO in partnership with MAAP, aims precisely to strengthen the competitiveness of SMEs in the sector, making this conference an ideal stage to achieve its goals of accessing new markets and technologies. The expectation is that the contacts and knowledge acquired during this week in Uganda will translate into new opportunities and a significant boost for sustainable aquaculture in Mozambique.
