This week, the Market Access of Mozambican Aquaculture Products (MAMAP) project welcomed Alejandro Rivera Rojas, Industrial Development Officer and Manager of the MAMAP Project, for a working meeting with the Project Management Unit (PMU) team. The meeting, held in Maputo, included the participation of the National Coordinator of MAMAP in Mozambique, José Ariscado, along with other team members.

During the meeting, Rivera Rojas highlighted the critical role of innovation and technology in advancing Mozambique’s aquaculture sector. He emphasized how global trends, such as digitalization, artificial intelligence (AI), and big data analytics, are shaping the future of aquaculture. These tools, he noted, are fundamental for designing more efficient initiatives to address challenges such as improving aquatic animal health and enhancing the overall sustainability of aquaculture practices.

The Industrial Development Officer and Manager of the MAMAP Project stressed that adopting Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies could position Mozambique’s aquaculture sector as a regional leader. He explained how tools like AI can optimize processes, while big data analytics can provide practical insights to improve production, ensure sustainability, and meet stringent export standards.

Our challenge is to integrate these advanced technologies into the local context to design better aquaculture initiatives that not only meet today’s needs but also anticipate the demands of tomorrow

– commented Alejandro Rojas.

It is worth noting that the MAMAP project, implemented under the Global Market Access Programme (GMAP) and funded by Norad, aims to expand market access for Mozambican aquaculture products by strengthening quality infrastructure and compliance capacities. With a total budget of EUR 2 million, the project seeks to make Mozambique’s aquaculture SMEs more competitive on international markets.
