With the support of UNIDO and funding from NORAD, intensive training in Modern Cooperativism is taking place from May 5 to 9, 2025, in the districts of Chongoene (Gaza province) and Inharrime (Inhambane province), as part of the GMAP Project.

The training is conducted by the Mozambican Association for the Promotion of Modern Cooperativism (AMPCM) and aims to strengthen the capacities of fishermen, aquaculture producers and members of local associations to create and manage modern, sustainable and legally recognized cooperatives.

With a practical and participatory approach, the training covers three core modules:

  • Basics of Cooperativism: history, universal principles and economic and social advantages;
  • Management, Good Governance and the Inclusion of Women: organizational structure, inclusion and cooperative leadership;
  • Aspects of the New Cooperatives Law (Law 23/2009): key elements for setting up and legalizing cooperatives.

Participants will also receive direct support to organize constitutive assemblies, draw up statutes and define the governing bodies of future cooperatives. The goal is to transform local associations into more resilient and inclusive economic entities, in line with legal standards and the principles of modern cooperativism.

The simultaneous realization in the two districts demonstrates the GMAP project’s commitment to the territorial replicability of good practices, promoting local economic development, community empowerment and the strengthening of aquaculture value chains in Mozambique.
